The Federal government and many states provide an income tax credit for
approved rehabilitation work to certified historic structures. Federal
historic preservation tax incentives are available for any qualified
project that the Secretary of the Interior designates as a certified
rehabilitation of a certified historic structure. To qualify,
a building must be listed in the National Register of Historic Places
or be a contributing resource in a registered historic district. Property
owners must the three-part Historic Preservation Certification Application. We
